Allen Tomsin Obituary
Allen Tomsin, born and raised in Calgary, passed away on September 9, 2025, at the age of 74.
Allen was a heavy-duty mechanic by trade and worked for a time in the oil sands. He later owned a stucco company in Calgary, where he worked with care and excellence, always committed to a job well done. He carried fond memories of his time working in Albania on a stucco project and later found great purpose as a driver for Calgary Transit, helping people each day and serving his community.
Dad lived life with passion, often fast and hard, and always independent. He loved motorcycles, soulful music, and the rugged spirit of old westerns. He was also a gun enthusiast and enjoyed attending cowboy shoots, known by his cowboy alias, “Harley Kid,” a nod to his love of motorcycles.
He celebrated life’s moments with family, enjoyed capturing beauty in pictures and videos, and cherished the sun and hot summer days. Before his cancer diagnosis, he had planned to move to Brazil to be with his love. Memories his children will always treasure include summer trips to the Okanagan to visit Nana, the road trips along the way, and even days spent tagging along at work and playing at the job site. He loved sharing dim sum with friends, ice cream with his grandchildren, traveling, meeting people along the way, and enjoying a good conversation. His humor, quick wit, grizzly spirit, and deep love for family, especially his grandchildren, will always be remembered.
He passed away with the sun on his face and his family by his side.
Dad was a strong man, yet he also carried struggles. In his trials he drew closer to Jesus. He never blamed God, even in his hardest days. In his suffering, especially these last months, his family was blessed to witness Jesus’ work in his life. Dad himself said that through it all, he would testify to what Jesus had done in his life.
He was a man who valued doing things on his own, yet through his trials God gently brought him into humility, showing him the peace and strength found only in Christ. His life reminds us that God uses each person differently, for His purposes.
Near the end, Dad described an image that represented his life and faith. Though never a man for tattoos, he imagined one on his chest: a bear claw tearing through alongside the face of Jesus, wearing the crown of thorns, marked by the blood that saves. For him, it was a picture of struggle and redemption, and a testimony of what Jesus had done in his life.
In honoring him, we carry that testimony forward. We are grateful for the memories, for the love he gave, and most of all for having seen Jesus’ hand at work in his life. For those who confess Jesus as Savior, this is not the end. It is only goodbye for now.
Allen was predeceased by his parents, Allen Thompson and June Stuart, and his sister Alana Marta.
He is survived by his daughters Jessie Marku (Edmond) and their children Annelise and Emmie, and Erinn Vielman (Sergio) and their children Santiago and Agustín; his brother Jerry Thompson (Kathie) and his sister Fonda Boyd (Randy). He will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Family and friends are warmly invited to a Celebration of Life, which will be held in Medicine Hat on October 25. For more details, please contact:
