Ben Herter of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved husband of Madeline, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the age of 92 years. 

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Madeline; two children, Tarry (Audrey) Herter and Sandy (Vic) Liske; four grandchildren, Neil (Laurie) Thauberger, Nicole Forsberg (Barry Windover), Kelly (Anita) Herter and Cody (Amanda) Liske; five great grandchildren, Tyler Thauberger, Luke and Stormie Forsberg, Talyssa and Kierra Herter; one sister-in-law, Leona Herter, one son-in-law, Larry Lant and numerous nieces and nephews.    

He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Mary Herter; two brothers, Edwin (Esther) Herter and Lloyd Herter; two sisters, Edna (Jack) Zollner and Violet (Hilbert) Diebert; one son-in-law, Ed Thauberger; one grandson, Ryan Herter and his daughter, Sharon Lant. 

Ben was born on January 14, 1933, to Edward and Mary Herter in the Golden Prairie district. He grew up with his four siblings on the family farm. He married the love of his life, Madeline Fauser, on May 23, 1953. Together they raised three children: Sharon, Tarry and Sandy.
Farming and cattle were his life for many years. Besides many fishing trips, Ben and Madeline loved to travel, mostly to Arizona for winter vacations.
Ben always looked forward to going for coffee! After moving to Medicine Hat in 1978, he was a daily fixture at various coffee spots. Even in his last days, as difficult as it was to move around, he was still wanting to meet friends for coffee. 

Ben  was loved and will be deeply missed. He was an outstanding husband, father and grandfather, and he will remain in the hearts of those who knew him forever.

The funeral service  will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as well as one hour before the service. The service will be live streamed.
