Cameron Wade Schorr, 54, passed away at his home in Medicine Hat on August 27, 2024, from complications related to his struggle with alcohol addiction.
Cam was born in Edmonton on March 22, 1970, and adopted by his parents, Vern and Florence Schorr shortly after. He attended Central Elementary, in Chilliwack, B.C. Alexandra Middle School, and Graduated from Medicine Hat High School in 1988.
Cam was a loving, sensitive, kind-hearted, generous, hard-working, dedicated man with a good sense of humour and was up for just about anything. He was a good friend and would do anything for someone he cared about.
Cam worked in retail sales. His career started with the Bata Shoe company in Medicine Hat. When that location became a Bata Athletes World Combo Store, and he worked his way up to Assistant manager.
Cam and Michelle Goertzen were married on July 6th, 1996. He and Michelle unfortunately separated in July 1999 and their divorce was finalized the following year.
In 1997, Athletes World offered him the opportunity to move to Banff and take the position of manager of their Nike store in conjunction with the position of assistant general manager of the attached Athletes World he jumped at the challenge. He and Michelle moved to Canmore and Cam began his career at the Nike Store/ Athletes World where he excelled.
Cam met Kelly in February of 2000, and they married in Canmore AB on Feb 2, 2002. They had a full social life with their close-knit group of friends and spent a great deal of time with them, enjoying a wide variety of activities, from weekly get togethers, which involved a shared meal, to movie nights, or just spending time together. They were introduced to new foods, attempted new sports, and had many adventures in the Spray Lakes and other areas in the Bow Valley.
Together they had two children, Logan in 2004 and Ciel in 2007. Cam called them the million-dollar family. One boy and one girl. He was a hands-on dad who enjoyed being there for them. He liked to building things, play with them and building Lego and other toys for them, play video games, teaching them how to do different types of jobs around the house, a bit of car mechanics, how to fix things (take things apart), and overall just spending spend time doing anything with them.
In 2007, the decision was made to move back to the prairies to be closer to their families. When the opportunity to manage an Athlete’s World store in Saskatoon presented itself, they moved to the bedroom community of Dalmeny. While in Saskatoon ownership of the Althetes World changed. It was absorbed into Sport Check. The Canadian Tire group ultimately purchased the Sport Check. He was offered the position of General Manager of a Mark’s store, also under the Canadian Tire Group, where he once again excelled.
He spent his entire career with the same evolving company, which started with him being an employee of the Bata Shoe Company, then the Forzani Group and untimely the Canadian Tire Corporation. He evolved with and worked through the shifts in corporate ownership and the changing managerial style of each, eventually becoming the General Manager of a Marks store in Saskatoon - a testament to his dedication, hard work, flexibility, leadership skills, and a true understand and enjoyment of his career.
Cam loved to spend time at McIntosh Point, Emma Lake where Kelly’s family had property. He loved the opportunity to spend time there whenever the opportunity presented itself.
After the separation from Kelly, Cam moved back to Medicine Hat where he resided until his passing.
Cam is survived by his children Logan and Ciel Schorr, their mom Kelly Schorr, siblings Doug Schorr and Sister Carrie (Ken) Lepp. In-Law’s Paul and Evelyn Neilson, Sister-in-Law’s Kirstie Radel - Nielson, Taylor (Steve) Bueckert, and brother-in-law Scott (Michelle) Hagen, his first wife Michelle Goertzen, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cam was predeceased by his parents Vern and Florence Schorr, his significant other Ralanda Murphy, and his mother-in-law, Elaine Hagen.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Septembe14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Little Plume Church (10224 Range Rd 52, Cypress County, AB).
Interment in Little Plume Cemetery and a reception at the church will follow.
