Clair Edward Shoemaker of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the age of 83 years. He was surrounded by family at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Clair was predeceased by his parents, Frederick “Jock” and Sarah “Sally” Shoemaker. He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Albert "Ab"; two sons, Jeff and Trevor (Justine) Shoemaker; four grandchildren, Travis (Cortney), Paige (Hayden), Faith and Alexis (Evan); two great-grandchildren, Halston and Berkley, with another one on the way; Norma and his daughter-in-law, Michelle.

Clair was born in Virden, Manitoba, and even though he moved all over Canada, he never left his prairie roots or forgot his family and friends from Crandall, Decker and Hamiota. He held various university degrees and affiliations with real estate boards across the country. Clair's career in commercial finance and his entrepreneurial spirit connected him with many individuals all over North America. Right up until his final days he was, "working on deals" as that was his passion. He was not only a business associate to these people but a mentor, confidante and friend. The cornerstones of Clair's legacy are his kindness, wisdom, integrity and family values - Pops, Grandpa Clair, Poppa. His greatest joy was spending time with friends and family on road trips, country music festivals, trying out new eating spots or just sitting back enjoying a house full of people. He was a dedicated father and was very involved with his sons growing up and their baseball. His proudest moments were when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were welcomed into the world. His next love was automobiles. Most stories when reminiscing would mention the year, make and model of what someone was driving and the highjinks they got into. Whether it was with old friends back in Manitoba or what his sons got into - it always involved the vehicles of the time. Even when he was living in Medicine Hat, Clair would sit out on the balcony and watch the comings and goings and comment on what new models caught his eye. His love of cars continues on with Jeff and Trevor and the next generation.

As per Clair's wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life in Virden, Manitoba on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Virden Cemetery, with a reception to follow.
