Emma Good Obituary

Emma Good, of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at the age of 97, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her son, Dewayne Good, her daughters Peggy Howard and Patty Horner, grandchildren Erin Sand (Dean Brown), Willis McLennan (Kareen Warren), Berton McLennan (Laura Bartley), Graham Good (Kailee Good), Laura Good (Dave Littke), and great-grandchildren Hayden Sand, Will McLennan, and Kim Good. Emma was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Good (1986), her parents, Jacob and Pauline Shock, her parents-in-law, Walter and Augusta Good, her siblings Ruth Seller, Ida Herman, and Paul Shock; her great-grandchildren Emily Good and Blake Good. Emma was born and raised in the Thelma area of the Cypress Hills where her parents operated the post office for many years. Emma and Lawrence married on March 8th, 1947; they lived and ranched in the Cypress Hills where Emma was fully involved in ranch operations, in particular the organization and preparation of large-scale meals for brandings and weanings. In 1951, Emma and Lawrence constructed a cabin in Elkwater. This became a place where friends and family gathered frequently and was the center of their social life for over 30 years. During this time, Emma developed many cherished friendships that she maintained after her semi-retirement to Medicine Hat in 1974. Emma was an avid Bridge player, a competitive bowler and curler, an enthusiastic golfer, and was arguably the best horseshoe player at any event. Special thanks to South Country Village/Sunnyview for their care of Emma over the last several years.

To honour Emma's request, there will be no formal funeral, however, the family encourages those wishing to remember her to do so through a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca).
