Gerald Heckbert, beloved husband of Bonnie Heckbert of Medicine Hat, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the age of 87 years.  He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Kerry- Lynn Heckbert, and Kimberley (Vince) Williams; two grandchildren, Cole and Carter Williams, his cousin Syd Smith and family.  He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Ruth Heckbert.  Gerald was born in Medicine Hat on July 9 1938, and attended Medicine Hat High School.  At the age of eighteen he moved to Lethbridge to work for AGT and then to Kamloops to pursue a career with BC Tel where Gerald worked his way to a management position.  Throughout his career Gerald moved around British Columbia with a long term stay in Victoria and finally retiring in Cranbrook. During his career he received certificates in both management and leadership.  In 2000 he moved back to Medicine Hat to care for his mother.  Gerald loved sport and in his younger years he played football, rugby, basketball and baseball.  His love of sports carried on into adulthood with a love of primarily golf and curling. Gerald belonged to the Riverview Golf Club in Redcliff where many hole in ones were made. Gerald also loved gardening and going to Tim Hortons, A&W and spending time with his dogs Skye and Blaze.  Gerald’s family was his world.  

The celebration of Gerald’s life will take place in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dallas Hjorth officiating.
