Harry Mitzner, beloved husband of Janet Mitzner, passed away Monday, July 13, 2026, in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Janet of 57 years; his daughter, Trina (Kelly) Marshall; his son, Devin Mitzner; two grandchildren, Macey and Brody Marshall and his brother, Armin Mitzner.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ida Mitzner and his brother, Bruno Mitzner.
Harry was born in Lodz, Poland, on January 17, 1943. He attended kindergarten and grade 1 in Poland and after that his family moved to Kleinsflorslengen, Germany, where he completed grades 2 to 5. In 1954, his family immigrated to Canada. They left Germany by train to Rotterdame, Holland, and from there by boat, "The Grootebeer" and arrived on October 22nd in Quebec. From Quebec they travelled to Redcliff, AB, by train.
Harry was enrolled in school in Redcliff starting in grade one in the morning and by lunch time was promoted to grade 5 and in January promoted into grade 6. He finished grade 9 in Redcliff, and then attended Medicine Hat High School for grades 10, 11 and 12. Summer jobs included working at IXL and the CPR at Sidewood. After grade 12, he got a job with Macdonald's Consolidated and worked there until opening his own business in 1974. It was first called Medicine Hat Produce and later changed to Medicine Hat Wholesale Foods. He successfully operated this business until his retirement in September of 2013.
In 1987, he and his wife Janet, purchased a ranch just South West of Cypress Hills Park, AB. They ran the ranch along side of Medicine Hat Wholesale Foods until retiring and then continued to help their son Devin with the cattle and farming operations. Harry was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping and fishing at Elkwater with his family and friends in their younger years. He was also an active member of the Gas City Kiwanis Club of Medicine Hat for many years, serving the community and attending various conventions. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Pastor Shane Hein officiating.
