Jack continued to farm the land after his parents retired in 1948. On September 18th, 1949, Jack married Violet Schneider at the Hilda Evangelical Church.

He also enjoyed playing the organ. Jack, Elvin, and Walter entertained at various functions in the Hilda Community. Numerous games of Schmear were played until all hours of the morning with friends and neighbors. Horseshoes was another one of Jack’s favorite games. He would take on all challengers, having every intention of winning. He also loved watching his hockey games, especially during the playoffs.
Jack and Violet moved to Medicine Hat in the fall of 2004, with Jack continuing to travel to the farm from the city. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 18th, 2009, at the Moose Lodge in Medicine Hat. After Violet’s passing in 2010, Jack continued living in their home until he moved to the Wellington in 2023, where he spent his remaining time.
