Jean Irene Jans of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Franklin Jans, passed on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the age of 92 years.  

Jean was born to parents, John and Ida Hiller, on March 21, 1933.  She was born and raised on the Hiller homestead in the Graburn area, south of Walsh, Alberta.  Jean attended McKay Creek School, and completed grade 10 by correspondence.  She then went on to marry Franklin Jans and they took over the Jans homestead from Franklin's father.  They continued farming until moving to Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1987.  After Franklin's sudden passing in 1988, Jean continued to focus on family and close friends, leading a very active social life until her passing.  

Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, Lyle (Jackie) Jans, Allan Jans (Elaine), Marilyn (Randy) Phaff and Kevin Jans (Miranda); eight grandchildren, Jeremy Jans, Jerid (Kelsey) Jans, Alyssa Stenerson, Rylan (Brooke) Boksteyn, Peyton Jans, Ryan Phaff (Kelsie), Kailey (Brynn) Naydiuk and Sierra (Troy) Stadnyk; two great grandchildren, Hendrix Naydiuk and Alexei Stadnyk; two sisters-in-law, Freida Hiller and Shirley Jans as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.  

Besides her loving husband, Jean was predeceased by her parents, John and Ida Hiller and her brother George Hiller.  

The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend officiating.  The service will be live streamed.  Those who wish to attend virtually, please use the following link, or click on the button below:https://youtube.com/live/koKi0ZBfQN8?feature=share.  A private interment will take place in the Hillside Cemetery.
