Jessi Lorraine Carter Obituary
Jessi Lorraine "Lorri" Carter passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at the age of 72, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer, and with family and friends visiting throughout her stay at Carmel Hospice and St. Joseph's Home in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Lorri was born on December 24, 1953, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to her mother, Lylian Jalbert. She later made her home in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where she built a life centered on family, care, and connection, and where she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and strong bonds.
Lorri is survived by her loving husband, Clinton Johnson, and her children and stepchildren: Michelle (Damon) Gillett, Kelley Carter, Jarrett (Jessica) Johnson, and Jason Johnson. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Gracyn Carter, Lilly Gillett, Kara Gillett, and Blake Johnson.
She is also lovingly remembered by her mother, Lylian Jalbert; her siblings, Colette (Ron) Peters, Rodney (Shelley) Jalbert, Brent (Barb) Jalbert, and Docean (Larry) Thiessen; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Lorri was predeceased by her stepson, Tyler Johnson; her brother, Dale Jalbert; and her stepfather, Adrian Jalbert.
Lorri shared a deep and lasting partnership with her husband, Clinton. Together they built a life rooted in loyalty and resilience. Their relationship was one of true companionship, one that carried them through life's joys, challenges, and everything in between. In recent years, they had begun looking ahead to a new chapter, making plans and dreaming about time they would spend together in retirement.
Lorri will be remembered first and foremost as the heart of her home. She had a deep love for baking and was happiest when her kitchen was full, crafting sweets, preparing hearty meals, and making sure no one ever left hungry. Feeding her family was one of the many ways she showed her love, and her table was always a place where people gathered, lingered, and felt cared for.
She had a creative spirit and was always working on a new craft, decoration, or small project. Her fondness for owls was well known, reflected in the many ornaments and keepsakes she collected over the years. These details made her home warm, welcoming, and unmistakably hers.
Lorri was also known for her strong personality: direct, honest, and at times a little stubborn, but always real. She spoke her mind, often loudly and without much filter, and those closest to her would not have had it any other way. Beneath that exterior was a deep well of care, loyalty, and love for her family that never wavered.
Her friendships were an extension of that same devotion. Her lifelong friendship with Marg McNeill was especially meaningful, so close that they lived across the street from one another. Marg became a bonus grandma to Lorri's family, just as Lorri was known as Aunty Lorri to Marg's. Their bond was built on decades of shared life, laughter, and unwavering support.
Above all, Lorri lived for her family. She gave her time, her energy, and her love freely and without hesitation. She created a home where people felt they belonged, where they were fed, welcomed, and looked after. Her presence was steady, her care constant, and her impact lasting.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at St. Joseph's Home and Carmel Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Lorri and to all of her family during her final days.
Lorri's ashes will be interred at a future date in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to remember Lorri may make a donation to St. Joseph's Home: https://covenanthealth.ca/donate#st-josephs-home
