John Dunn

Mr. John Thomas Dunn Jr., of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the age of 69 years. John’s memory will be cherished by his beloved wife Marilyn of 43 years, his children Amanda Balaz, Ryan Dunn (Amanda); grandchildren Lexi Balaz, Mikayla Balaz, Rhys Dunn and Easton Dunn, as well as his sisters Donna Van Waes and Nancy Bitz and Uncle to Nelson (Melissa) Van Waes, Vanessa (Cliff) DeMello, Michael (Salma) Van Waes and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John Sr. and Olive, and brother-in-law Tony Van Waes. John was a power engineer by trade and after he and Marilyn married, they had their two children.  His years were spent playing with his kids and grandkids, camping at Elkwater, fishing at the various lakes around the Medicine Hat area, hunting with his son, listening to music, and enjoying the company of his many friends.  John was known as the gentle giant and for having a heart of gold. He will be dearly missed by many especially his sense of humor and hearty laugh but has left those who knew him with a lot of great memories.  In keeping with John’s wishes, a private family remembrance will take place at a later date.  On behalf of the family, we would like to thank John’s two ICU doctors, the nurses and other support staff in ICU at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.  If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made by planting a tree in John’s memory through the Pattison Funeral Home website or donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Alberta for further research, The Devonian Building, Suite 370, 11150 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T5K 0C7.
