John Abraham Meiring was born on August 20th, 1941 in Sunland South Africa to John and Mieta Meiring. He was the fourth of six children. He was predeceased by his loving and spirited wife of 58 years, Yvonne Meiring, his oldest daughter, Alice Margarert, two sisters Lettie and Frannie and his brother Flip. Left to cherish his memory is his youngest daughter Madeleine (Adriaan), his three grandchildren; Phoebe Kriel (Yianni), Adriaan Kriel (Puruvi) and Wessel Van Rensburg, two sisters Sophie and Chrissie and many nieces and nephews.

John and Yvonne were married in 1963 and raised their two daughters in Brits, South Africa. They immigrated to Canada in 2010. John had a very sharp mind and loved staying informed on current events,  always eager to discuss the news, politics and sports. He was a lover of all animals, especially his dog, Jakkals, that he brought with him from South Africa. He developed a deep love for gardening and spent many hours caring for his flowers and vegetables.

Armed with unwavering inner strength, John tenaciously endured his battle with his disease, never letting it dim the light of his love for his family that he held so dear to his heart. While his passing leaves a deep void, we take comfort in knowing that he now rests peacefully with the Lord.
