John James Quinn Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of John Quinn announces his passing after a battle with brain cancer on January 24, 2025. Born in Quebec to Lena and Jimmy Quinn, John grew up in the Peterborough area surrounded by a large, close-knit family of seven siblings; Frank (Cherri), Garry, Mar, Paulette, Louise, Lee-Anne and Judy (Gord). He moved to Medicine Hat in 1966, where he would go on to live a full and rich life.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Donna Quinn, and their three daughters, Tammy (Russ) Schepens, Kimberly (Michaell) Ost, and Jennifer (Joe) White. John’s legacy continues through his twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan (Tyson), and their son Myles; Isaac; Shelby (Brayden), Jamieson (Jenna), Kaleb (Hannah), Emma (Jeff), and their daughter Daisy-May; Haylie (Kellin) and Elise, Jadon, Arianne, and Avery.
John was predeceased by his only son, Jamie Quinn, who passed away in 1992.
John’s passion for draft horses was a defining part of his life. His love for these gentle giants was matched only by his commitment to his family and friends. A hardworking and dedicated man, John’s warmth and kindness touched all who knew him. He was known for his humour, strong work ethic, his generous spirit, and ability to make those around him feel loved and valued.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff on Five West at the Medicine Hat hospital, especially Sean for his loving care; the rehabilitation staff on Two North for their unwavering hope to improve his strength and finally the unbelievable angels who work at St. Joseph’s Covenant Home. Their endless smiles and continued optimism carried him through the last stages of his heroic battle ending every day with “this was the best day ever” on his lips.
A family man at heart, John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memories will live on through his family, his love for draft horses, and the many lives he touched.
