John Weimer Obituary

The Weimer family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather John on June 14, 2025.

Left with memories of him are his wife Rose, his children Darcy (Kari), Stacee and Perry; grandchildren Brandon (Leanne) Hilgendorf, Danielle (Ian) Haberlack, Aaron (Kaleigh) Weimer, Jordan (Danica) Weimer, Finley Weimer and Abby Weimer; his great-grandchildren Silas and Daxton Hilgendorf, Austin and Peyton Haberlack, Hunter and Avery Weimer and Calvin Weimer;  step-grandson Jared (Taylor) Hopper and their children Maverick and Waylon and his son-in-law Frank (Lorraine) Hilgendorf.

John is also survived by his brothers Kasper (RoseMarie) and Wilfred (Linda), as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many, many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his daughter Jodi Ann Hilgendorf, his parents Tony and Lena Weimer, his brothers Frank, Ernie, and Albert Weimer and his sister, Carol Bosch.

John lived a full life.  He spent 35 years with the Medicine Hat News starting as the Business Manager and retiring as Publisher.  He had a deep love of farming and spending time on the tractor or combine.  He had many interests such as deer hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and, most importantly, playing his accordion whenever needed.  He will also be remembered for his many community endeavours including the Lion's Club, and a Director with the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede.

John and Rose shared 64 years together and were very fortunate to spend many years travelling after John's retirement from the Medicine Hat News.  As busy as he was, John loved spending time with family and friends, most especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Tom Mohanraj for his excellent care of John over the years, as well as the staff from Home Care and Palliative Care and the doctors, nurses and staff of 4 West at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

May the winds of love blow softly
and whisper in your ear
"We love and miss you
and wish that you were here"
