June Work Obituary

June Work of Maple Creek, beloved wife of the late Leonard Work, passed away at the age of 91 years on Monday, February 24, 2025, in the Maple Creek Hospital surrounded by her daughters Crystle and Theresa.

June was born to David and Blandena Mackie June 7, 1933.  Attended School at Manville and Maple Creek.

As a youngster, she worked for Stu and Lou Forsyth and at the Slade Ranch with Delores Noreen as her boss.  Delores was a big influence in her young life and she credited her with many of the skills she had in her adult life.  Delores would say "Do as I say not as I do!"

She married Leonard Work in October of 1953 and moved to the ranch on Skull Creek where they stayed until they moved to the Maple Creek condo in 2011.  In 2023, she lost her leg and then moved to Autumn House in Gull Lake.

June did not work outside the home after she was married but was instrumental in their success.  She milked cows, shipped cream, raised skim milk calves and pigs, fed beef, rode horses, and did all the summer fallowing and baling.  She was famous for her bread and pastries which she continued to make or provide direction on how to make, until the week before she passed.

June and Leonard loved having company and everyone was welcomed in for a drink and a bite to eat - no one left hungry or thirsty!

She is survived by her children Crystle (Jim) Winquist and Theresa (Al) Wilson; her grandchildren Bart (Tammy), Curtis (Jolene) and TJ (Chelsey); great grandchildren Wylder, Bailey, Dena, Alma, Perry and Rexah; her sisters-in-law Marg and Joyce Mackie

June was predeceased by her parents Blandena and David Mackie, her husband Leonard Work, a grandson Travis Winquist; sisters Mable (Jobie) Riley and Vera (Earl) Stata; her brothers Clive, Jack and Shorty Mackie as well as a niece Sandy Mackie and nephew Arnold Mackie.

A celebration of June's life will be held in the Maple Creek Armoury on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (CST) with Pastor Chris Clark officiating.
