Justin Gordon Schmierer Obituary
Justin Schmierer, of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, February 5th, 2026, after a grueling battle with cancer, at the at the age of 41 years. He is survived by his mother, Gerry (Chris) Willerton-Smith, his brother A.J. (Alex Day), his best friends Devon Theriault and Ken Aldred, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends. Justin was complicated person who felt deeply about many subjects. He was generous to his friends and always worried about doing the right thing. He loved building things with his friends and indulged in LEGO to pass the time in the last year of his life, lamenting only that it took him getting cancer to have the time to do so. In the last year of his life, he spent many hours speaking about his cancer journey, and everyone listened. Most commented that he had an incredible spark of life, and despite the challenges he faced, he remained upbeat and a positive force in everyone's life. He has been missed, and even at the place he last worked, for only a few months, he was missed and he would often stop in and take the time to talk to everyone. Justin was concerned that he wouldn't leave a lasting impact and that the short time he had with those he loved, wouldn’t be remembered. In the weeks since he has passed this worry has been proven false. His life had an impact. He left an impression that will never be forgotten, and he will be missed for years to come.
