Laurence "Larry" Bonneville Obituary

Laurence Joseph Bonneville “Larry” of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 22, 2023, at the age of 82 years.

Larry is survived by his immediate family: his wife of 56 years, Kay Bonneville; his daughter Leah (Wayne) McBurnie of the Gold Coast, Australia and grandchildren Callum, Meeghan and Vanessa; his son Sean (Vanessa) Bonneville of Medicine Hat,  and grandchildren Mitchel, Allyson, Emilie and Danial; and his son Bryce Bonneville of Scottsdale, Arizona and grandchildren Cole and Evan.

Larry is also survived by numerous extended family and their children, and his siblings: Yvonne (Donny) Michnik; Marie (Morris) Pawliw; Louis (Brenda) Bonneville and Paul (Sylvia) Bonneville; and all of their numerous children and grandchildren.

Larry spent his childhood in Glaslyn, Saskatchewan before moving to Turtleford, Saskatchewan in grade 11 to play hockey.  Larry then went to Teacher’s College and started working as a radio announcer to pay for his education.  Larry taught in Turtleford, Saskatchewan before returning to University in Saskatoon to get his degree.

Upon completion of his University degree, Larry continued working in radio at CKCK in Regina, where he met the love of his life, Kay Bonneville.  Larry spent the rest of his life with Kay and built his entire life, family and career with Kay.  They remained inseparable for the rest of his life.

Larry started his teaching career shortly after graduation and married Kay in 1966.  Larry and Kay moved to Medicine Hat in 1974, where they grew their family and their careers.  Larry taught for several years at St. Francis Xavier School in Medicine Hat before he went on to have a successful career with the City of Medicine Hat before retiring in 1999.

Larry spent his retirement golfing, snow-birding, hiking, playing and listening to music, gardening, visiting family and friends and of course travel with many trips to Australia and Arizona.  Larry spent his retirement generally being the happiest and most active retiree anyone has ever met.  In particular, Larry enjoyed taking every possible opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 31 from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm at the Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club – where incidentally, Larry got 2 holes in 1 (of his 3 total in life)!!!
