Obituary

It is with tremendous sadness and love that we say goodbye to our wonderful mother and grandmother Lillian Joyce Pahl.  Lil is survived by her children Cindy (Fred) Verhaest and Dwight (Stacey) Pahl; her grandchildren Lindsey (Stephen) Behrman, Jerrod (Holly) Verhaest, Ashley (Cody) Thierman, Breane (Clark) Andrews, and Graham Pahl.  She is also survived by her great grandchildren Jenaya, Reid, Easton, Jace, Harper, Ellie, Cole, Quinn, Hudson, and Blake.  Lillian is predeceased by her husband Stan, son Byron and brother Norman Schneider.  Mom grew up on the family farm south of Irvine with her parents Bill and Ida Schneider and brother Norman. On March 30, 1954, she married Stan Pahl and moved a few miles north to the farm they would call home and where they would raise their three children.  She worked very hard milking cows, raising chickens and farming alongside Dad.  Whatever her task, you could always hear her whistling and laughing.   In 1985, they moved to Medicine Hat, where Mom started working at Ed’s Studio Craft, an accomplishment she was very proud of.  She was an avid gardener and excellent cook, her strudels being a family favorite. Her Christmas feasts were an eating event, and one we all looked forward to.  During their retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and playing cards with friends.  Her grandchildren meant everything to her and she loved them dearly, spoiling them every chance she could.  Her grandchildren have fond and lasting memories of the camping trips Mom and Dad took them on.  She was blessed with ten great grandchildren that brought smiles and laughter to her with each visit.   When you look at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know and that is a true reflection of our mom.  She always put our needs as a priority and through example taught us the standard to which we should aspire.  Mom looked at life like no other.  She would find such joy in the simplest things like trees changing color, birds singing and nesting, and new life in the spring.  She showed us how beautiful life is and how to live it with honesty and love.  Mom, you have been our inspiration.  We love you so much!  Lil’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Masterpiece and Meadow Ridge for the compassionate, loving care Mom received during her time at those facilities.  The funeral service will be held at Victory Lutheran Church (2793 Southview Drive SE) on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roland Weisbrot officiating.  A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.   The service will be live streamed.  Please select the video tribute button below to view the funeral service.
