Margaret was born in Empress, Alberta on July 11, 1937. Margaret was the second oldest of six children. She grew up on a farm close to Mendham, Saskatchewan.
Margaret’s mother passed away when she was a young girl. Her father Simon remarried Katherine Lang and the family moved to Prelate, Saskatchewan. Katherine had three children from a previous marriage: Maxine, Gloria, and Alexander.
Margaret was active in high school playing baseball and enjoyed curling. She graduated from Prelate High School and went on to attend Saskatchewan Teacher’s College in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Margaret started teaching at Krupp School near Mendham and went on to teach for 28 years in the Leader School Division.
Margaret loved to entertain and was a talented musician, playing accordion, banjo, guitar, and organ. Margaret played in bands with her sister Rachel at weddings and even won a talent show and recorded an album. Upon retirement she spent hours entertaining seniors in Swift Current.
Margaret met Alfred Antonovitch in 1956, and they married on April 22, 1957. They lived in Lancer with their seven children and later moved to Abbey, Saskatchewan. The family enjoyed activities such as gathering with cousins for family reunions, camping at Cypress Hills Provincial Park, as well as picnics and fishing at the river.
Alfred passed away suddenly in October 1985. Margaret later met Albert Monk and remarried in April 1994. She became a stepmother to his four sons Leonard, Michael, Gordon, and Steven. Margaret moved with her new husband to Swift Current. Margaret and Albert enjoyed traveling in their RV to dances, music, and accordion festivals. Albert passed away in 2012.
Margaret sold her home and moved from Swift Current to Medicine Hat in 2023. She loved living in Meadowlands and was active until she fell ill. Margaret managed her illness with acceptance, faith, humor, and grace. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Simon and Margaret Wickenheiser; her loving husbands, Alfred Antonovitch and Albert Monk; her brother, Wendel Wickenheiser; her sister Theresa Dionne and her stepson, Steven Monk.
Margaret was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League since 1957. She was also a member of the Ursuline Associates. Margaret’s Catholic faith was especially important to her. She passed away at St. Joseph’s Home with her rosary in her hand and family members praying at her side.
The family would like to thank friends and relatives, who were able to visit, for the love they shared with Mom during the last weeks of her journey. For those unable to visit but sent love and prayers…they were appreciated.
A special “Thank You” to the Staff at the Carmel Hospice St. Jospeh’s Home for being awesome and making Mom’s stay as comforting as they could.
