Muriel Mae Mogck Obituary
Muriel Mae Mogck of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Melvin Mogck, passed away surrounded by family at Agecare Riverview Home, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the age of 82 years.
Muriel was born in Three Hills, Alberta on May 29, 1943, to parents Henry and Molly Maerz, who farmed northwest of Three Hills. After moving from the farm into town in 1956, Muriel continued school and was actively involved in Youth and Sunday School at Bethel E.U.B Church and also participated in two 4H clubs, gardening, sewing and learning a lot. Following high school, she graduated from Henderson’s Secretarial School in Calgary and became employed with Gulf Oil until 1969. Muriel always dreamed of having a family, and one day in January 1969 she received a surprise letter in her apartment mailbox from a fellow who lived in Walsh, Alberta (she actually knew where Walsh was because of family trips from Three Hills to Golden Prairie, SK, to see grandparents). Soon to be husband Melvin Mogck, introduced himself, picture included, for the first time and Muriel, who was 25 at the time, naturally returned a letter and also included a picture! Her mother, Molly, had almost given up on her as her mom was married at 23. In April, during a visit to Medicine Hat for an HCC Commencement, the two officially met in person, and had supper at Canada Café, downtown, before they had to head back to Calgary. The rest was history. Their relationship blossomed as Melvin put many miles on his GMC Half Ton, and Muriel drove down to the farm to meet his parents. They were engaged by September and married in Three Hills in November. Some creative matchmaking by some aunts that were friends blossomed into an almost 50-year marriage, two children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They lived and farmed south of Walsh, Alberta, where Muriel enjoyed her big garden, raising chickens, sewing, cooking, baking and being hospitable to all, while still finding time to attend her kid’s music concerts and sports. In 1996 they retired from the farm and moved to Medicine Hat. Muriel was actively involved with their country bible studies, their church as a pianist and Sunday school teacher and a member of the Gideons, and Hat Harmonettes for many years. She also enjoyed bowling league, shuffleboard, and table games with family and friends.
Muriel leaves behind to cherish her memory her two children, Wanda (John) Reinholdt of Hussar, AB, and Dale (Lorinda)Mogck of Medicine Hat, AB; two grandchildren, Corryn Mogck (Christian Patterson) and Jordan Mogck (Brittany Aucoin); two great grandchildren, Kyler Fountain and Kaliah Grandy and her niece Connie (Kelvin) Sadowinski.
Besides her loving husband Melvin, Muriel was predeceased by her parents Henry and Molly Maerz as well as her brother Clarence Maerz.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Chinook Village, Masterpiece Home, and Agecare Riverview Home for her care over the years.
