Norman John Smith of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the age of 81 years.
Born in Kingston, Ontario, Norm later raised his family on a horse farm in Lansdowne, where his love for riding and training horses was passed on to his children. In the 1980s, the need for work led him west to Alberta, where he found both work and a second home in Medicine Hat. A hardworking man and natural tinkerer, Norm took great pride in building and caring for his home.
He loved spending time on his deck, sharing good food, cold drinks, and
laughter with family and friends.
Norm was a caring and loving father. He is survived by his children: Edward, Judith, Elizabeth (Patrick), and Gregory. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ruth.
He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Marcos, Ryan, Jake, and Caeleigh, and his great-granddaughters, Rory and Millie, and was predeceased by his grandson, Brendan. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret and will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Peter Alphonse and Jessie Smith; his siblings, Joan, Thomas, Ronald (Beaulah), and Clifford; and his brother-in-law, Donald Smith.
Quiet by nature but full of humour and strong opinions, Norm was a loyal friend. To be loved by Norm was to know deep and unconditional love.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium.
