Sue Hogg (nee Block) was a woman defined by fierce independence and a deep commitment to living life on her own terms. Strong-willed and unapologetically herself, she valued her solitude and cherished the quiet company of her beloved books, her knitting, and her spirited cat, who often matched her in stubbornness.
Those close to Sue understood that she was steadfast in her convictions, sometimes to a fault. She held strong beliefs, and while this made her a person of remarkable resolve, it also meant she could be difficult to sway once her mind was made up. Relationships with Sue were often complicated, as she wasn’t one to easily let go of past grievances. But beneath that unyielding exterior was someone who felt deeply, even if it wasn’t always expressed in the conventional ways.
Her children—Aliya, Andrew, and Shayna—have each inherited her strong sense of independence, forging their own paths in life. Though life’s complexities created distance over the years, her influence on their strength of character is undeniable.
Sue’s life may not have followed the traditional path, but she remained true to herself every step of the way. Her unique spirit and the lessons she imparted, both in her actions and in her silences, will be remembered by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, reminding us all of the courage it takes to walk one’s own path, no matter how winding it may be.
Interment has taken place at Hillside Cemetery
