Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Sara (Mark) Steel and Shauna (Dale) Bushfield; her cherished grandson, Roy Bushfield; her brother, Tom Bengert; her sister, Donna (Gord) Warriner, along with their daughter, Carla and her child, Paige (Sarah), and son, Stacey (Tammy)Warriner and their child, Raine (Jada), as well as her extended family members and friends. She was genuine, loving, and proud of her family. Sylvia’s laughter and spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Sylvia Margaret Bengert was born on March 23, 1948, in Mankota SK, to Emil & Lena Bengert. In 1959, she moved with her family to Medicine Hat, AB, where she grew up and later graduated from McCoy High School. Sylvia moved to Calgary, AB, and in 1973, she married and began raising her family. She was a proud and devoted mother to her two daughters, Sara (Mark) Steel and Shauna (Dale) Bushfield, and later became a loving grandma to Roy Bushfield. Sylvia and her family moved to Rockyford, AB, where they owned and operated the hardware store. In 1981, she settled in Irricana, AB, where she became deeply involved in the community. Sylvia owned a video store, served one term as Mayor, enjoyed being a member of the Irricana, AB, Country Cruisers Car Club, curling, spending time with friends and neighbours in the village she proudly called home. Sylvia worked for many years at the Calgary General Hospital before starting her own business doing medical billing for doctors. Outside of work Sylvia loved these simple joys of life ~ visiting with family, camping, fishing and playing a lively game of canasta. She was incredibly crafty and talented, sewing clothes for her daughters when they were young, enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, knitting and most recently diamond-art. Many family members and friends were lucky enough to receive her handmade creations as gifts. Sylvia had a personality that filled a room; she loved to laugh, speak her mind, and bring energy wherever she went. She was genuine, loving, and proud of her family. Sylvia’s laughter and spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Lena Bengert and her brother, Mike.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, Pat Grisonich officiating. A private family interment will take place in the Hillside Cemetery.
