Thomas Helliwell

Thomas “Tom” Newton Helliwell of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Marcia Helliwell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at the age of 90 years. Tom leaves to cherish his memory, nine children, Donald (Mary) Helliwell, Kate (Sheldon) Parker, David Helliwell, Jackie (Alan) Klein, James Helliwell (Cheryl Madon), Mitchell (Wendy) Helliwell, Mark Helliwell (Linda Smorang), Mercy (Nick) Smith, and John Helliwell (Ami Eller), and his grandchildren, Rachel Corrinne Higham, Celestial Sanderson, Isaac Parker, Crystal Musen, Obadiah Vogel, Logan Helliwell, Chase Helliwell, Jesse Craig, Joel Craig, Nicholas Craig, Makayla Helliwell, Levi Helliwell, Gabrial Helliwell, Josh Helliwell, Grace Smorang, Sierra Eller, Dakota Eller, Chyanne Eller and fifteen great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Olga Helliwell; his brothers, Robert “Wesley” and William “Billy”, and his sisters Virginia, Marilyn, and Esther. Tom was born and raised in Minot, North Dakota. He worked on the Great Northern Railroad as a young man and later studied to become a geologist in California. In the 1960's, Tom met and married Marcia. Together they built a family and life based on principles of their faith. Throughout his life, Tom performed many different jobs as he was someone who was mechanically minded and handy. He volunteered his skills in charitable pursuits. Tom was loved by all and will be deeply missed. A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date. For those who wish to remember Tom, pass on an act of kindness to a fellow person in memory of Thomas, who always liked to give and help.
