William "Jack" John Burns Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William John “Jack” Burns, beloved husband of Linda Burns and the only child of Bill and Doris Burns. Jack passed away at the age of 78 in the Medicine Hat Hospital on October 23, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer and his heart. He kept his great attitude right to the end. Jack was Linda’s best friend, and husband for 56 years. Jack is survived by his wife, Linda Burns; his two daughters who loved him dearly, Tammy Burns of Medicine Hat, and Jay Jay Burns of Calgary, and two granddaughters Taylor (Levi) Janzen of Surrey, B.C., and Zoey Heukshorst of Medicine Hat. They loved their papa dearly.

Before moving from Brandon, Manitoba, Jack worked for 35 years as an office equipment specialist technician. He was known and loved by many family, friends, and the children at the school where he worked for years as a custodian. He will always be remembered by the way he talked like Donald Duck.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium.

A Celebration of Life for Jack and Jay Jay will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rivers, Manitoba, on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. as a come and go event.

In respect to Jack’s wishes, there will be no public service.  Those who wish to remember Jack with a donation, may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society (200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5), the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca), or to the charity of their choice.
